About Steelest

An estimator who counts from the drawing, not from the last job.

Steelest is the steel estimating practice of Monika Sobieraj: takeoffs and detailing hour estimates for fabricators, detailers and contractors, prepared from the drawings in front of us.

Who is behind Steelest

Monika Sobieraj has spent her career on the estimating side of structural steel: reading contract drawings, counting members in Bluebeam, classifying them by detailing effort and turning the counts into hours and quantities that fabricators and detailing offices plan their bids around. Steelest is that work offered directly, with a small team of detailers and estimators behind it when a package is large or the deadline is short.

How we work

  • Every package is counted from its own drawings. Nothing is copied from a similar project.
  • Every element is marked on the PDF, so the count can be audited line by line by the person who has to sign the bid.
  • Work goes into your templates and categories. You never re-enter numbers.
  • Questions go straight to the person doing the count, in plain English.
  • Drawings are treated as confidential. An NDA can be signed before the first file is opened.

Where we are

Steelest is based in Poland, in the EU, and works in English with clients in AISC and Eurocode markets. Our working day runs on CET (UTC+1), which starts ahead of most of our clients’ mornings: drawings sent at the end of your day can be in work before you are back at your desk.

Tools

Bluebeam Revu for markups and counts; Excel and LibreOffice for workbooks; your own templates wherever you have them. See structural steel takeoffs, detailing hour estimates and miscellaneous metals takeoffs for what each service includes.
